After Barbara Kingsolver spoke last week, at the North Carolina Festival of the Book, bright wisps of steam were pouring down into the quad outside Duke’s chapel.

bike art on display

From May 12th until June 24th, the Altered Esthetics gallery in Minneapolis, Minnesota will have on display over one hundred pieces of bike-themed art from more than forty artists around the country.

I can’t remember how I first heard about the show, but I decided to submit some photographs. To my surprise, all four were accepted. Later I learned from Jamie Schumacher, the curator of the show, that one of my photographs had been selected as the marketing piece to represent the show. I’m honored to have my works on display at the show, and I’m even more excited by the idea that there are so many others who see the simplicity, the elegance of the bicycle as worthy of artistic representation, and who find inspiration in the bicycle for the most creative human faculty.

Happy May Day. Celebrate something other than work.

Review
“Another photographer worth noting is artist Phillip Barron. Taken with black and white [sic] photography, his pieces show solitary bicycles in various settings that are beautiful and ethereal.”
